After giving many superhit films, stepped into the world of TV
Ramanand Sagar had directed many super hit films like Ghunghat, Arju, Prem Bandhan. He started his career as a stage manager in Prithvi Theatre.
How did the idea of making Ramayana come?
Ramanand Sagar went to Switzerland in the year 1976 for the shooting of a film named Charas. One day after his work was over, he took his four sons to a cafe. There everyone ordered red wine. The waiter not only brought wine but also brought a box. There were two poles in front of that box. He moved both the sides and switched on the switch in the box. Although TV had arrived in India, but watching color TV was a new thing for Ramanand Sagar at that time.
When Ramanand Sagar left the world of films and entered the world of TV
Ramanand Sagar’s son Prem Sagar has told in his father’s biography An Epic Life: Ramanand Sagar that this was the only moment when Ramanand Sagar decided to leave films and enter the world of TV.
Maryada Purushottam Shriram is the mission of my life
Prem Sagar told in his book that on that day he kept watching TV till late night with a glass of red wine. Then said, ‘I am leaving cinema… I am coming to television (industry). The mission of my life is to bring the story of Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram, Shri Krishna with sixteen qualities and finally Maa Durga in front of the people. It was from here that Ramanand Sagar decided to make Ramayana and took it to the people.
